Ep: 11 Virginians of Interest: Tim Timberlake, Radio Personality and Producer

Brian Campbell and Carthan Currin Season 1 Episode 11

Tim is a native Virginian who lived in New York, Charlotte and Staunton before moving here to attend Randolph Macon College in 1967.  He began his radio career at WTON in Staunton during high school, and then went to work for WRVA in 1970.  He spent four years as trafficopter reporter in the 70s and would later join Alden Aaroe as co-host of the morning show for eight years until Alden’s passing in 1993. Along with John Harding, Tim would remain as morning host for another eight until his retirement in 2001.

Since then, he’s been a freelance producer and voice talent, a stage manager and emcee at numerous festivals and concerts including MerleFest, Graves Mountain, Red Wing Roots and the Richmond Folk Festival, where he’s served on the programming committee since its inception. He serves on the Emeriti Council at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and the Riverfront Committee at Venture Richmond.

Tim is president of JAMinc, a Richmond nonprofit that promotes music and school outreach through live concerts and radio programs on VPM Music, including the In Your Ear studio concert series since 2004. Currently he’s producing and hosting a documentary radio series on VPM Music and The Breeze featuring the historic live recordings from the late Page Wilson’s Out O’ The Blue Radio Revue from three decades ago.  These programs, featuring guest artists like Tony Rice, JJ Cale, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Indigo Girls, Delbert McClinton and Townes Van Zandt, can be streamed on VPM Music and The Breeze.

Tim and Deveron, his wife of 40+ years now call both downtown Richmond and Portland, Oregon home as they spend quality time with their two young grandsons out west.
